The aggregate population of Europe is getting older. In some countries, especially in Eastern Europe, this population of ‘Baby Boomers’ (or the ‘Gray Wave’)—people aged 55 or older—surpasses the number of young people. As a result, this population requires a new and innovative approach to housing.
In Western Europe, elderly people tend to want to live independently as long as possible. And although in Eastern Europe it is more common for elders to stay with their family—the possibility of doing so is becoming more difficult; due to changing cultural norms, lifestyles of the young, and increased vocational demands, many older people stay behind and are left to care for themselves (even more so than their parents did).
In today’s world, it is becoming increasingly sensible for families to find a more collective and conducive option. Accordingly, we have designed a concept that allows elderly people to live on their own, in a comfortable, safe, and accessible environment - and most importantly: they choose their level of independence.
